overthepastyears,electronicnosee-nosetechnologyopenedhasenhancedthepossibilityofexploitinginformationonbehavioraromatoassessfruitripeningstage.theob-jectiveinthisstudywastoevaluatethecapacityofelectronicnosetomonitorthechangeinvolatileproductionofripenessstatesfortomato,usingaspeci?celectronicnosedevicewith10differentmetaloxidesensorsportablee-nose,pen2.principalcomponentanalysispcaandlineardiscriminantanalysisldawereusedtoinvestigatewhethertheelectronicnosewasabletodistinguishingamongdifferentripenessstatesunripe,half-ripe,full-ripeandover-ripe.theloadingsanalysiswasusedtoidentifythesensorsresponsiblefordiscriminationinthecurrentpattern?le.theresultsprovethattheelectronicnosepen2coulddifferentiateamongtheripenessstatesoftomato.theelectronicnosewasabletodetectaclearerdifferenceinvolatilepro?leoftomatowhenusingldaanalysisthanwhenusingpcaanalysis.usingldaanalysis,itwaspossibletodifferentiateandtoclassifythedifferenttomatomaturitystates,andthismethodwasabletoclassify100%ofthetotalsamplesineachrespectivegroup.somesensorsine-nosehavethehighestin?uenceinthecurrentpattern?leforelectronicnosepen2.asubsetofafewsensorsine-nosecanbechosentoexplainallthevariance.thisresultcouldbeusedinfurtherstudiestooptimizethenumberofsensors.
