A fixing agent for electron microscopy. It requires a shorter washing and dehydration time, causes less deformation during fixation, and has good permeability for the embedding agent, so a variety of resins can be used. Tissues that can be preserved in a good state include intracellular microstructures, unsaturated fatty acids and DNA granules. The product is contained in a glass ampule because it is volatile and has a strong protein denaturing action.

Fixation means a process by which when observing microscopically the ecological or pathological state of a tissue specimen taken from a dead or live body, the tissue specimen is preserved in as "intact" a state as possible. The objectives are to:
- Stabilize the main constituent protein of the tissue specimen as fast as possible to stop （autolysis）.
- Minimize the degeneration and deformation of the tissue specimen due to the effects of chemicals and heat during the subsequent specimen preparation process.

It is used as a fixing agent for an electron microscopic specimen, and for preventing the spillage of triglyceride in the tissue specimen treatment process and fixing proteins.
It can be used as is because it is provided in a solution and does not require dissolving.
